Expansion of Kerbal Kind to it's Nearest Celestial Ice Cream Scoop
Expansion of Kerbal Kind to it's Nearest Celestial Ice Cream Scoop
The Scoop That Started It All.
Near the beginning of the space exploration era, N.S.P. successfully landed Kerbals on Minmus, and later on, we had two complete research outposts on Minmus. However, as technology progressed, the focus of expanding these bases faded. Life on other planets, terraformation, and even interstellar travel became more important to Kerbelia, as many though Minmus was already understood to its limit. However, the Kerbelian National Space Committee brought a good point regarding Minmus, which is that it is the reason that technology was able to get this far, and it is a prime spot where research can be conducted. Furthermore, we still use Minmus research outposts for the bulk of our scientific progress. Thus, the Kerbelian National Space Committee thought it would be a good idea to expand Kerbelian, and Kerbal presence on Minmus as a whole, so they decided to launch a series of missions to create a metropolitan area of Minmus for the further expansion of Kerbal Kind, For Rocket Launches, and Research.
Utility Bay - N.S.P.
After an executive order was put into place by Seedun Kerman, funding for a Minmus base mission was set into place. N.S.P., in regular fashion, used the Astra Sailor as their workhorse to get a utility module for the space city. This module would be sufficient to power a large colony type base that would act as the city, and also allow for future developments such as a Launch Complex, Business outpost, and much more. As planes were taking off, and birds were chirping, N.S.P. launched their Astra Sailor from K.S.C. Pad 1, and it ripped through the atmosphere, and made its way to Minmus to drop off the Utility Bay. Once it made a soft landing on the flats, it released the bay, and it got into position. Then, using the flats as a long runway, the ship went home and landed back at an airfield near N.S.P. Site, which had some overgrown bushes.
- Center Command - K.N.S.C.
The next vital part of this city was a Central Command bay. To everyone's surprise, it wouldn't fit in the Astra Sailor's 3.75 Meter wide payload bay. Many wondered if the Neidon Venture could handle this, or even the Titan Sailor, but the complexity of launching with these machines would be too great, so a different alternative was decided. Either Kerbal Mechanical Labs or a 3rd party could launch it. Kerbal Mechanical Labs was pre-occupied with researching how to get interstellar communications to work, so they were unable to assist. Thus, a 3rd alternative was reached: The Kerbelian Government. Now, the Kerbelian Government is the most technologically advanced Government in the world, but it doesn't really have a dedicated space craft division. The Kerbelian National Space Committee exists, but this is only for funding private space programs, leading the International Space Committee, protecting Kerbelian Satellites, and regulating movement between space. As odd as it may sound, they have not made a rocket before, but they do have the knowledge and experience on how to. Thus, they drafted their first design called the Kerbal Launch System. More details can be found on their official page. However, the first launch of this rocket was a success, and it did a perfect flyby of Minmus with veteran Kerbal Pilots, and on the second launch, it delivered the payload to Minmus, and it attached the base without any issues. This marked an important step for Space Flight, as now there was more competition within the market.
- Crew Regions - K.M.L.
With a central command center and utility bay, there was hardly any room for a crew to live, and there were zero to no life support systems available on the foundations of the city! So, the module for the crew was developed by Kerbal Mechanical Labs along side their child company Kerbal Kinetics. The module is comprised of four compartments: A science Bay, Green House, Common Area / Mess hall, and finally, a service airlock. Interestingly, this would be the largest module by far, so it would not be able to be transported by an Astra Sailor, Titan Sailor, or a Neidon Venture. And, the Kerbal Launch System would not work for this task, so the newly made Galactic Sailor was chosen. And due to this new choice, the mission did come off to a rocky start with new infrastructure needing to be built at N.S.P. Site on Kerbin, but after that was finished, it took off and made its way to Minmus during a solar Eclipse, completed its mission, and came back. Also, President Seedun was onboard the spacecraft, and visited with the Permafrost Point astronauts. The exchange between the two parties was a big moral boost for the crew, and President Seedun promised them their hard work would not go in vein. Anyway, there are only 2 more modules left, those being: Science Module, and Communications Module.
More Will Be Updated For Future Missions
