Operation Sand Dune:
Dunitian Life
Following Syracuses questionable war tactics in Leeland, the United States of Kerbelia has jumped on the idea of colonizing Duna.
Operation Sand Dune 1: Astra Duninia
Way back when the world was a calmer place, N.S.P. had just launched their Astra Duninia Rocket to Duna, along with satellites to image the orange planet. The early missions of Astra Duninia would include powered Duna landings, and rover scouting for future bases. Although a lot was built for Duna, N.S.P. didn't think it was the correct planet to inhabit, so they shifted their focus on Laythe. However, this early research would prove to be vital for a future colonization plan.
Operation Sand Dune 2: Orbital Scanning
To win the contract with Kerbal Mechanical Labs, the two partnered on a satellite that would image and resource scan Duna for materials and areas of interest to land on and do research. After the completion of the satellite, it was launched off of N.S.P. Site launchpad 40A, and it eventually made its way to Polar Orbit of Duna. Furthermore, they also launched a Deep Space Network Satellite that would orbit around Duna.
Operation Sand Dune 3: Imaging Satellite
After N.S.P. had won half of the contract and Kerbal Mechanical Labs won the other half of the contract to colonize Duna, the two decided to work together for the future of Kerbal Kind. N.S.P. contracted KML to create a Rover that would work in all of Duna's dangerous environments. Eventually, KML delivered on their contract, and the most advanced rover to have ever been built was launched to Duna, and started collecting surface data for a future base.
Operation Sand Dune 4: Rocky Range
After N.S.P. finally had the needed information on where to put a base, they settled for Rocky Range, a site imaged by the "Duna Imaging and Resource Satellite" and the Duna Spec Rover. The base landed 500 meters away from the desired target, which was close enough for scientific standards. Shortly after landing, the terraformers onboard activated, and many were spread within a kilometer.
Operation Sand Dune 5: Polar Research Base
Now that kerbals were back on Duna, N.S.P. wanted to send another base to Duna, but mainly to the South Pole. With Kerbal Mechanical Labs, they were able to get this done just as they were able to get the Rocky Range site done, but this one would mainly focus on outdoor experimentation rather that indoor experimentation.
Operation Sand Dune 6: Base Construction
After the two main colonies were setup on Duna, the construction of an orbital spaceport was set to be build next to Rocky Range. After a long time of manufacturing using the colonies' drill, the base was finally finished, and was ready to be used. After this, many more bases were planned for construction and use.
Operation Sand Dune 7: Terraformation
After the long process of colonizing Duna, the Terraformers that were spread across the planet have made staggering process, as the atmosphere is now breathable, and the pressure at sea level is able to support Kerbals. Along with this, Duna's magnetic field is strong enough to protect the atmosphere. However, not all of the planet is truly green, as a majority of it is still red. Over time, the red of Duna's past will slowly fade away, symbolizing a new era of Kerbal conquest of the Stars.
