Pioneer: The Spark
The Pioneer missions lasted from 1-3, which resulted in it being the shortest category for missions. However, they were the most useful missions because they lit the spark for what N.S.P. would be today.

Pioneer 1: The Flea
The first mission, Pioneer 1 was preformed with Nicholas Aeronautics' first Rocket booster, "The Flea." This test was crucial to the understanding of how the physics of rockets worked within Kerbin's lower atmosphere. Jebediah Kerman was the first Kerbalnaut to fly in a rocket.Â
Pioneer 2: Mammoth 1
Next, we have the Mammoth 1. This was the first sub-orbital rocket to venture into space. This launch was a milestone for the start of space exploration, and the wonders of what is beyond our atmosphere in orbit.
Pioneer 3: Mammoth 2
The Mammoth 2 was an upgrade of the Mammoth 1, by which a more efficient engine was added along with extra fuel in the first stage. This allowed for the rocket to enter into a stable orbit of Kerbin, and it was the first to do so. After this launch, though, funding was cut back and aeronautical research prevailed.
